Memory Poem by James Fumich

when i went to sleep at night
i saw her loving eyes
and i heard her voice say to me
as her breath caressed my cheek...
'i love you oh so dearly'
and i feel a tear come to my eye
as i hold her tight and begin to cry
and i choke out a single questioning word... 'why? '

why did you leave me?
why didnt you continue to try?
why does this have to hurt so bad?
why did you want to die?
why wasnt there a single goodbye?

there was no answer.. only her holding me...
and then a single kiss... upon my cheek...
she started to fade away...
but had one last thing to say..
'carry on for me'
'im the sun upon your face'
'feel my kiss with every breeze'

i woke with a tear streaked face
feeling still were her lips touched me
i then vowed to live my days.. in joy
to honor her memory
