Mid December Sonnet: (2021) Poem by DM W

Mid December Sonnet: (2021)

The wild dogs are barking on wintry streets.
The days are getting darker. Sadness breeds
I am still clinging to my frozen dreams.
O the blurring of false wants and real needs
Seems to increase at this time of the year!
Illusions cover harsh realities:
So many icons; yet true Beauty's rare.
Narcissism is a modern disease.
Adverts abound with superficial smiles.
Love soon disintegrates into mere lust.
Youth and Age must undergo prolonged trials.
In the end, we're only ashes and dust.
The wise ones find sacred spaces within.
They don't seek gilded palaces of sin.
