Middle Of The Night Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Middle Of The Night

Waking in the middle of the night
a cool calmness surrounds
A reassuring maternal awareness
listens for breathing sounds

The wheels of a distant train
turn upon the steel track
The murmuring rhythm repeats
its continuous clickety-clack

A gentle breeze is stirring
swaying the branches of a tree
adorned with lush new leaves
moving like the waves of the sea

The starless sky blankets and sedates
Inducing a tranquil desire to let go
of all thoughts that circle about
then submerge beneath the overflow
