Mirage Poem by Mahfooz Ali

Lying there in the dark
not able to sleep
I couldn't get you off my mind
can't really explain why
it's not as if I loved you
we'd only just met weeks ago but
I felt like I'd know you for years
you were so perfect
not a single solitary flaw
all this took me by surprise
it couldn't be real
I completely admired you
I could recall every conversation
all the sweet things you said
how safe I felt with you
the way you looked at me
you made me feel special
it destroyed me when I had to leave
but I would never forget you
I could never forget you.
