Misplaced Loyalty Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Misplaced Loyalty

Misplaced loyalty.
Has its own price to pay.
Its own guilt to remorse it.
With this to personalize,
To remain and stay.
On one's mind to cement.
As a misplaced loyalty,
Continues to chip away...
At a doing to allow,
A consciousness to disobey.
And done to be convinced,
To betray is okay.

Misplaced loyalty.
Has its own price to pay.
Perhaps not today.
Or the next to awaken,
One numbed...
To what themselves done to do.
Until it becomes realized,
With eyes to open wide.
And ears to hear clear,
One's own thoughts...
Ignored before,
But no more to bring...
To one who sits,
With time undivided and listening...
As eyes to cry,
From them begin to drip.
Understanding.
But not to comprehend the sense of it.

"The why?
And...
The how could I permit,
My own life to be jeopardized.
To appease and please another,
Just to be used to be played the fool.
And not give a Shhhh...
To show a damn about me! "
