While our great country India wriggles
out of international sports events
With an odd medal or two,
Our gypsy artists
Earn a penny or two
Through somersaulting, rope walking
On the streets.
The vehicles keep passing by
And I keep moving on too...
Rather tragic,
That's all I can say...
While gallons of frothing champagne cascade down the heads
of IPL cricket players,
Somewhere in remote corners
Of our great country India
Young athletes nurture their sporting
Dreams with pennies
Earned through tough labor.
The vehicles keep passing by
And I keep moving on too...
Very tragic...
That's all I can say...
Thanks, dear Friends Asoke Da, Rajnish Ji, and Kumarmani for your kind words abd appreciation.
jasbir, this is a beautiful write.your observation is great....yes, it is sad indeed. god bless the poet.and the great click.
Barring cricket, all other games or athletic events demand mostly the personal finances for the preparation of players. Their food, their playing kits and even the coaches are paid from pocket. Most of the times, the acrobats such as the gypsy girl under reference find it difficult to make both ends meet. Thanks for sharing a thought provoking poem, Jasbir ji.
While gallons of frothing champagne cascade down the heads somewhere in remote corners of our great country India young athletes nurture their sporting. Own efforts and own dignity they keep ahead. No one waits for penny. They give effort to sports in own land in own practice. Trying to earn a penny or two in street showing adventurous athletic activities, young boys and girls still keep interest for development. They earn through labour. Very powerful and brilliant poem is drafted from experience. This is thought provoking and very social...10

I would like to translate this poem
This is the sad state of sports in India. Cricket is all about glamour and fanfare while other sports are being neglected. There are so many talents rotting in rural areas but no one cares about them. They are lost in darkness forever. Your poem is an eye opener and the photo shows the pathetic state of our young talents. 'The vehicles keep passing by And I keep moving on too... Rather tragic, That's all I can say...' says how much you care about them. Thanks for posting.10+++
Thank you, Anil, for your comment. I really appreciate it.
