Mitchelle's Motto Poem by Hannington Mumo

Mitchelle's Motto

My sole goal is to strive to excel
In all the things that teachers tell;
Triumphing where average mortals fail…
Choosing success over easy failure,
Having a heart that gets ever livelier;
Ever shunning the company of the lazy,
Learning to be chaste and gainfully busy;
Leaping from light to greater light,
Easing all obstacles by tireless fight.

Sensible people shall be my bosom friends,
Outrageous to me is the rebel who offends;
Persons of pure morals I will honestly love,
Hating all dimwits who dark missions serve.
I intend to keep close to the wise,
Earnestly keeping off evil's guise.

May the kind Lord thus captain my star
Until I finally go beyond the loftiest bar;
Like great heroines gone, may my names get
Into history books by the great examples I set.
