Moment In Time* Poem by Terence George Craddock (Spectral Images and Images Of Light)

Moment In Time*

Rating: 5.0

A moving hand
the stroke of a pen
a signature on a page.
Little letters representing
the power, of the name
the purpose felt power, of a name.

Stocks raise stocks fall
governments crumble companies fall
from accounted balance,
on fatal financial page.

Mere moment in time
sealing the marriage vow.
Paying for items of leisure
moments of pleasure
signing the weekly wage.

The flash of the president’s pen
deals with the life of men.
Starting a war settling a score
all happens so far away.

Why gamble your life away
why drink into the grave
why sign the death of an age?
It takes a man to say he’s wrong
a man to stop the bomb;
any imbecile can push a button.

Committing all they own
lifetimes of savings gone
centuries of time
in an act catastrophically blind.

Enemies face governments hate
poised for the stroke of the pen
poised for stroke of fleeting pen
the beginning fuses the end.

It’s better to weep,
than stir the ashen heap.
Taking to the grave
beauty knowledge secrets
lost for all time.
