Mon Temps.(Translation) . Poem by Michael Walker

Mon Temps.(Translation) .

Rating: 5.0

Mon temps se termine vite
et encore
Je n'ai pas chante
la vraie chanson
la grande chanson

J'admets
qu'il semble
que j'aie perdu mon courage

un regard au miroir
un apercu dans mon coeur
me fait vouloir
me taire pour jamais

donc pourquoi est-ce que vous me penchez ici
Seigneur de ma vie
penchez-moi a cette table
au milieu de la nuit
comment etre beau

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
No punctuation in the poem. He is old; his time is running out and he does not like what he sees in the mirror. His good looks have gone and he wonders how to be beautiful.
More important, he thinks he has still not written 'the true song/the great song'. On the contrary, I think that Cohen's truly great songs are: 'Tower of Song' and 'Democracy', which are stunning. Other great songs are: 'Anthem', 'Bird on the Wire' and 'Closing Time', to name a few. Most critics hail the biblical 'Hallelujah', but I do not care for it.
Cohen is generally regarded with Bob Dylan as the greatest singer-songwriters of our time. Dylan was more prolific, and was both a folk singer then a rock singer and I would have to rate him as slightly the better of the two.
