More Than Life Poem by Kelly Boutin

More Than Life

I missed you when you died, My Love
You were so young and brave
I carried you outside
And I stood beside your grave

When the funeral died
I dug you up again
I carried you inside
And washed off your dirty skin

You are still alive
I can feel it deep within
You should've never died,
Never let the world win

I kiss your hollow eyes
And I take the pennies off
You're worth more than life
In my eyes, My Love

I dress you back in the gown
You wore on the day
I would have took your hand
But you gave yourself away

I cut loose your broken heart
And I give you mine instead
I'll take all your hurt
If this world gives up it's dead

Close your pretty eyes
And reopen them, My Love
Time is never time
When there isn't time enough

I watch you from the doorway
And I cry for you
If only I had known it,
I wouldn't have let go

I cry a thousand teardrops,
I cry a thousand more
My Love, why can't you hear
How much I love you?

I carry you outside
And lay you by your stone
If you want to close your eyes
Then I'll have to let you go

I open up my eyes
And I take your hand
I've lived my life and died
And now I understand

I wrap you in my arms and scratch out your pretty stone
Forever in my arms
You'll forever have a home

I kiss your hollow eyes
And I take the pennies off
You're worth more than life
In my eyes, My Love
