More Time Poem by Edwina Reizer

More Time

The road to the hospital
seemed much too long,
as if we'd never arrive,
or take a road that was wrong.
And all the time I held the hand
of the dearest one to me,
praying silently beside him
so he could not see.
So many things ran through my head
of the years we spent together,
the ups the downs, all occasions
when our hearts were light as a feather.

And now my being was being torn apart.
My very own heart started to smart.
I knew this road and yet I did not.
For each time we took it I forgot
we were saved by a false alarm
as one more time you came to no harm.
For rainbows appear and disappear
and bring me hope again
that we will travel that road no more.
And we shall do everything that we can
to prolong our days in this place
in another timeless embrace.
