Mosquitoes Poem by Francis Duggan

Mosquitoes

They always bite me when i am in bed
And mostly on the bald patch on my head
In darkened bedroom hear their droning sound
As o'er your bed they hover round and round.

You wave your hand but hovering near they stay
They have to bite before they go away
The female needs blood before she can lay
That's what the well informed sources say.

You always scratch the spot they choose to bite
These tiniest of 'winged terrors of the night'
And though many end their life in squashed up way
They even come and bite you in the day.

Some in their bedrooms burn a 'mozzie coil'
But that's not always a successful foil
The coil as most know does not guarantee
That your bedroom will remain mozzie free.

Mozzie or mosquito either describe the same
Though many for them use a coarser name
The female bites for to fulfil her need
Without your blood 'tis said she cannot breed.

They always bite me when i am in bed
And mostly on the bald patch on the head
And i have often cursed them in the night
As i scratched and scratched the spots they choose to bite.
