Most Thoughtless Think This Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Most Thoughtless Think This

Most thoughtless think this:
It is not so dumb,
To do what's dumb done.
Those thoughtless think this:
It's not so dumb to do what's dumb.
Most thoughtless think this:
It is not so dumb,
To do what's dumb done.
Those thoughtless think this:
It's not so dumb to do what's dumb.

Like turtles.
People will sit in their shells.
And like turtles,
Believe themselves...
Sheltered forever.
Like slow turtles.
Sitting to hear heard gossip.
Passing on their judgements.
Looking at the TV news.
To complain about the weatherman.
Saying look forward for rain.
Yet people will stay to play,
Their petty games night and day.

They believe to be sheltered,
From corruption.
Near them going on.
And believe themselves sheltered,
From destruction.
While they eat their popcorn.
They believe to be sheltered,
From Sun up until dawn.
Not being aware.
Or caring less what's going on,
Near them or anywhere.

Those thoughtless think this:
'It's not of my concern how World turns.'
Most thoughtless think this:
'That mess is not in my cozy nest.
Why should I be upset'?

Those thoughtless think this:
'I'm my own leader of the pack! '
Most thoughtless think this:
'I will never be the one attacked'.
Those thoughtless think this:
'What I have I got all by myself'.
Most thoughtless think this.
To be left.

It is not so dumb.
To do what's dumb done.
Those thoughtless think this.
Until that day comes,
Their thoughtlessness...
To have done to another,
Proves not to be the one that dumb.
And moved on from those thoughtless.
Gone to move on.
From those thoughtless.
But remaining to stay cautious!
