Mother Amazon's Tears Poem by Charlotte Peters Rock

Mother Amazon's Tears

The vastness of the Amazon
Does not stretch on forever without ceasing

This Mother-Land absorbs the pain
Of grand destruction and the force of might

But She is battered in its wake
Her wounds - in thousands - pull her down
Remove her hyacinth macaws

Her forests and her creatures torn
In greed by those who do not know
Or do not care about the consequence

Are lost to climates round the Earth
The birth of long catastrophe awaits

Distressed and angered
She stands by - and weeps
