Mountains Of Track Yet To Pass Poem by Terence George Craddock

Mountains Of Track Yet To Pass

progressing full stream ahead
getting through a mountain of work
steam train is still firmly on the tracks
accelerating decelerating for twisting corners
taking steep hairpin corners at near walking speed
making steady slow progress over the mountain pass
coal running lower low water in shorter short supply
coal water stops distance need plentiful

nursing the boiler to prevent bursting blowing the boiler
soon to finally reach more descending track
progressing towards destination
storm holding off weather sharp crisp cold
snow flurries soon falling
sidewinder sleet gradient rain maybe soon falling

the completion of a long haul nearer
but still nowhere in sight
gradient is difficult
taxing
concentration demanding
over high altitude alpine pass

it was a time when water pressure was king of the tracks
