My Customary Wait! Poem by Namratha Swamy

My Customary Wait!

Holding the moment in eternity
as the grain of sand slips between my fingers,
I wait on the sun-kissed beach in silence.

Filling my eyes with the orange sun
as he begins his slow descent,
I strive to stand firm on the slippery sand of time.

Watching the boats sail away towards the horizon,
as the distance increases,
I strive to hold the vision in my mind.

The roar of the lashing waves,
the soon-disappearing sun,
the yellow sand being washed away underneath my feet,
the Magpie traversing the sky,
the boats disappearing behind the clouds,
and my customary wait...

As I stand there in earnest,
His voice reverberates in my ear, 'Until we meet again! '
