My Dead Walk So Lightly Poem by Sheena Blackhall

My Dead Walk So Lightly

My Dead walk so lightly
My Dead walk so lightly their steps are not heard
But sometimes I glimpse them…a look, or a word
I feel I could touch them…a memory is stirred
Alas, they fly from me, elusive's a bird

I see them afar as I'm crossing a street.
I quicken my pace, praying that we will meet
They turn, in an instant my hopes disappear
False cheating perception! A mirror unclear

The Dead don't leave empty, when they come to part
Each once cuts a shard from the root of my heart
At night they slip under my eyes as a dream
To be carried away by the dawn, on life's stream

The Dead live inside us, as close as a pulse
Those that we cherish, and those that repulse
My Dead walk so lightly their steps are not heard
But sometimes I glimpse them…a look, or a word
