My G.C.S.E. Poem by John Carter Brown

My G.C.S.E.

'Congratulations, you've got a B'
My teacher said, with pride, to me,
'You've passed your English G.C.S.E.'

I found my time, in class once more,
A pleasure, not like it was before -
And certainly no slog, or chore.

Frankly, and with a touch of guilt,
No sweat, no blood or tears were spilt,
As I went at it, at full tilt.

I quite surprised myself, indeed,
Amongst my class I took the lead
O'er all the best, to supersede.

'Congratulations, ' teacher said,
As little Johnny surged ahead,
Becoming to his learning wed;
'No more you'll be the underdog,
You've fast become a clever-clog, but,
Please don't become a pedagogue.'

Like the way you tell your tale, John, and for pedagogue you'd get an A*.

Nice poem, good rhyme scheme. GCE & GCSE = top examination boards.

You would have made a fine pedagogue. Good poem, little Johnny.
