My Heart Is Yours Poem by Laura Rodriguez

We were staring at each other’s eyes,
holding hands.
I closed my eyes shut when I heard a gunshot.
I felt no pain in my body,
but I heard a soft gasp.
I opened my eyes and saw your eyes with tears.
You had been shot.
You collapsed into my lap as I held you close,
each breath you took, led you closer to death.
As you drew your last breath,
I saw an Angel come down.
He told me if I wish to save you.
I said yes.
He told me if I would give my soul in exchange for yours.
I said yes.
He told me if I loved you enough to die for you.
I said yes.
He told me he would take my heart and give it to God.
But when he reached out to my chest,
he told me I had no heart.
At first it scared me,
but I knew what happened.
I had already given you my heart.
And the Angel told me,
that my heart was enough to save him
When the Angel left,
you looked at me,
and told me what happened.
I gave you my heart,
I said.
