My Mascot Has Been A Sparrow Poem by Mark Heathcote

My Mascot Has Been A Sparrow

My mascot has been a sparrow.
Her destination was a distant cry.
Oh, on a scarlet morn tomorrow
She will leave me, but she is nearby.

Beside the waters of a wishing well
I'll drink my fill.
And she will flicker with nonparallel
And I'll drink my fill.

And sing, I love and admire her still.
Oh, my mascot, you will do it for me.
Dear sparrow, as can be
You are the one for me,

Her destination was a distant cry.
Somewhere nearby
The darkness forgot to shut a seller's door.
And starlight shone inshore forever more.
