My Masculine Mandarin (A Love Poem) Poem by Affiah Odhiambo

My Masculine Mandarin (A Love Poem)

You walk into the office as you do every morning,
The hypnotizing fragrance of your cologne excites the air,
My eyes, secretly follow your exquisite steps,
You reach for your seat, I negotiate with my heat.

Now you're looking at me, I'm drooling at you,
Privately; paradoxically I pray, I plead,
Please don't notice this blush on my cheek,
This fire in my eyes, this longing, in my heart.

Now I'm smiling at you, you're smiling at me,
Our daily greeting you may dismiss it, mere routine,
Oh the delight your dental state lends my soul!
Your smile crowns you, 'my Masculine Mandarin'.

Through the day, my heart stays shyly at bliss,
Cagily enjoying your engaging presence,
I ask you questions, my ears dance to your answers,
I complete your sentences, you sentence my senses.

Now it's 5pm, my feminine modesty carries the day
again, as I watch you walk away, again!
You take me everyday as your ideal workmate,
I give into each night wishing you were my soul-mate.
