My Muse, Come Back! Poem by Fred Babbin

My Muse, Come Back!

Rating: 5.0

My muse has left me for the day,
And I am left all by myself
Although she gives me quiite good pay.
I really don't know what to do,
without her, so — what do I do?
Do poets get their coffee breaks?
have a lunch-hour?
What of Health Insurance?
Do they get paid
by the hour,
by the poem,
Or are they
on salary?
Or can they ignore
those benefits
And starve to death?
Do they drink alcohol,
smoke Mary Jane,
Use heroin,
amphetamines, cocaine, ?
Can they get a vacation?
What is their inspiration?
What do I do?
What should I do?
(If I think of “do’s” and “should’s”
I am no poet.)
And so I sit with naught to do
but to make nonsense just for you.

Well Fred, sometimes poets, like PH just need to take a break.
