My Neighbour's Kid Poem by Pen Anthony

My Neighbour's Kid

A faint knock at the door
I open up, he walks in
Past me, without pleasantries
He hops onto the couch
Grabs the remote
Starts flipping through channels

Did i tell you he calls me daddy
His mother says it's the only word he knows
I don't mind it though
Maybe i do look like his dad
Who i really haven't met

It must have been a a week
I hadn't seen him
His mother said he was at his dad's
I had company
She cooked breakfast

I was in the bathroom
I heard that faint knock
I knew there'd be trouble
As the knock was always followed by
A call for daddy then another knock

My company
She didn't know the Neighbour's kid
By the time i came out of the bathroom
He was at his spot flipping channels
She was waiting hands on her waist
I had an explanation to give.
