My Old Friend Poem by Viola Grey

My Old Friend

Rating: 5.0

Do I really need to slip into the abyss
to entertain your ears.
Why does every darkest tear touch you
more than the glow of joy.
I know we love a tragedy
and celebrate all lost souls,
but can't we still get lifted away
with laughter.
As I sink into his warmth, I surrender these tears
and bathe in his smile.
No delusions linger here on this pen,
I still know of darkness.
It's been a friend too long to simply walk away,
so I keep the door open
to greet my old friend
with laughter.

The darkness you speak of has a way of clinging to many.Stay positive they say, which is ok, but better to seek the lighter side and shed the velcro of negativity. Laugh and smile more often it does you justice my friend.

filled with unselfish empathy, its true when you state we love a tragedy. Aristotle recognized this and explains in his much recommended 'Poetics' that the catharsis is a purging of both body and soul. best wishes Shimon
