Whenever I was in the light
My shadow always was with me.
But where was my shadow at night?
I knew that still there it did be.
Whenever I did something wrong
It always was that I'd get caught.
My shadow was always along,
And must tell on me, so I thought.
Whenever my shadow I'd spy
I'd try to make it go away.
But all the harder I would try,
My shadow stubbornly would stay.
My shadow served the devil well,
And laughed when I went down to hell.
