My Social Security Poem by Randy McClave

My Social Security

When I was 18
I didn't think about that one day I would be 64,
When I was 18
I never thought that later in life I'd be rich or poor.
Every check that I had ever received
I spent it the best way that I truly believed,
And many times my life was a financial wreck
So, many times I lived from paycheck to paycheck.
When you are 18 you don't think about retirement
Every dollar you get is already spent,
And if you are working a job that is low paying
Then everyday for extra money you are always praying.
When you are younger you don't think to invest
It's to much worry and time and stress,
Many times the stock market and investing companies failed
And the investors always lost and they wailed.
I am so glad that the government took money from me
To invest it in my own social security,
If it wasn't for them taking those weekly taxes out
Then for a good living I would be in doubt.
I also wouldn't have a medical plan
That those taxes paid for when my retirement began,
Now I always sleep with a peaceful mind
My future for the better has been outlined.
If it wasn't for social security I would still be working to this very day
And every night with worries and hardship I would pray,
I am to old to get another job
And I am to old and to honest to beg or to rob.
I am now happily retired and I get my check monthly
I live very happily and I am very comfy,
When I was 18 I didn't worry about when I'd be 64 years old
I am now so glad that social security did, now I'm all gold.
