My Soldier Poem by Em Jay Christian

My Soldier

How can you judge when you don't know,
When you don't have a clue?
Don't think you have any idea,
Just what I'm going through.

Your boyfriend is here to hold you,
He can still kiss you goodnight.
Your boyfriend can still comfort you,
And tell you everything's alright.

My boyfriend is in the Army,
Working to keep our country free.
Sure I still cry sometimes at night,
Wishing he'd come home to me.

I will admit I envy you,
You will never know my fears.
You will never lay awake at night,
Counting days that feel like years.

But I know I'm not alone,
There are thousands more like me.
I am surrounded by Army Wives,
And fellow Army Wives-To-Be.

So go ahead, judge if you will,
Tell me I'm not right.
I'll still be waiting for my soldier,
Every day and every night.

And I know he will come home to me,
No matter what you have to say.
You can keep your Bankers, Doctors, Lawyers,
I'll take my Soldier any day.
