My Thoughts On The English Debate 2019

My thoughts on the English Debate 2019
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
For those of you who have had the good fortune of reading P.G. Wodehouse's books,
I begin with referring to his satirical humour in talking about political candidates
Who have to resort to kissing babies to get the mothers' votes
Surely, not an abhorrent task, say I, for my husband and I have been
Fond parents of an adorable baby some years ago
And he turns a responsible twenty one years old in another 3 weeks;

Burning ambition eggs the candidates on, I thought admiringly,
When I saw them on the battleground firing ammunition at each other
Mr. Trudeau, with due respect, I shall refer to you as a Mr. Doable and Ambitious Plan
For the next 4 years
Mr. Scheer, I say that answering the questions accurately was not your goal
It was to undermine the confidence and work of Justin Trudeau
But then again, you probably succeeded in sowing the seeds of doubt in undecided candidates' minds;

Mr. Singh, you did well as did all the candidates
But then it was your 72 hour take home exam
And you had given it your soul and wit,
With a GDP of 1.7 trillion dollars CAN or USD, as reported by Canada Economy,
How is Justin Trudeau dishing out 14 billion dollars to pharmaceutical companies
With an additional 4 billion dollars for jets and limousines for other companies
But your task was done and that was to say that Justin Trudeau had resorted to "wasteful extravagance"
While I think that it is a case of ungenerous parsimony, another oxymoron
For I could do with some earnings;

Mr. Blanchet, you did well considering the fact that
English is not your choice of weapon
Mr. Bernier, you were most vocal but the early enthusiasm died down
Towards the end and you, when you had to resort to duelling pistols
Didn't do very well;

Ms. May, you were outstanding and being a woman
Holding your own amidst a group of male rivals
You have my admiration
But you do not have a clear plan as to how to combat climate change
While Mr. Trudeau says he has a strategy and he would be well served
If he were listen to experts' opinions which does include me
For I am an engineer with dual master's degrees and 2 years of paid work experience
And my papers proving climate change is backed, as I have learnt, by Prof. Peter Zandstra of U of Toronto;

I say that I am not a risk taker and bet on a past record and hence,
Will vote for Justin Trudeau
In the fervent hope that he shall further my ambitions
To become a respected member of society with considerable earnings for my published efforts and endeavours
And make Canada a better place, a haven for all Canadians;

Coming back to you 6 candidates, may the best person win
With honest and hardworking efforts to hold your own
And win the sprint to do well in the marathon that is going to come after, the Prime Ministership
As the wise people say, Let the games begin in 2 weeks!
