Nasi Lemak, A Malaysian Dish Poem by Daya Nandan

Nasi Lemak, A Malaysian Dish

Rice cooked in creamy coconut milk with fresh screwpine leaves,
Bringing out the fragrant aroma that my youthful nose perceives,
Sometimes cooked with ginger or stalks of fresh lemon grass,
To bring out that tantalizing taste that has it's own class,

Served with many garnishes and traditional shrimp or chilli paste,
Like cucumber slices and roasted peanuts to bring out the taste,
Fried anchovies, stir fried water convolvulus and fried eggs too,
Often with fried chicken, beef or fish to bring a taste so true, '

The mouth watering taste of nasi lemak is one of a kind,
For it nourishes my stomach, my soul as well as my mind,
Its scrumptious taste that feels like heaven upon my tongue,
A taste of paradise that makes me shout at the top of each lung,

Nasi lemak is not Malaysia's national dish without good reason,
For it has won many Malaysian hearts throughout every season,
When i think of my homeland i think of this uniquely tasty delight,
For this dish brings upon me a taste that just feels right!
