Nature Walk Poem by dave lessard

Nature Walk

Rating: 3.0

We crunched the burrs
underneath our feet -
out in the open field
the smell of marsh was sweet.
We walked among the rocky shore,
and followed the
white dots on boulders;
that was awesome, much higher
than our shoulders.
We saw two herons duke it out -
for private space to hunt;
the bigger was always in command,
the other was what we call a runt.
Then we climbed the higher slick-rock,
and were rewarded with great views;
the water and the rocks were still,
and it chased away the midday blues.
Like shrinking humans, we got dwarfed
by nature's swelling landscape;
but we relished in it's strength,
it's wonderful to be free and to escape.
An hour was enough to savor,
the birds, the water and the trail;
and so we crunched once more the burrs,
and the beauty of the day prevailed.
