Nearer To Our Last Poem by Francis Duggan

Nearer To Our Last

Time does not wait on the young or the old
It ticks on and on as we are often told
Each day we do live one nearer to our last
On looking back the Seasons time does go so fast
Death is the leveller as the poet Shirley said
The deceased billionaire is only equal to the deceased pauper when dead
The living compete for this thing known as success
Though life is the greatest gift anyone does possess
We are born as mortals when all is said and done
And tomorrow will dawn but not for everyone
As it is for the pauper it will be for the billionaire
The Reaper of lives any life does not spare
The years do go by and time does tick on fast
And each day we do live one nearer to our last.
