Ned Casey Poem by Francis Duggan

Ned Casey

Ned Casey played for the Slanan Rovers Football Club when he was a young man
Going back in time at least a three decades span
On his physical best years when his hair was light brown
In the Cloghoula countryside close to Millstreet Town

Down to earth and quiet spoken and in his ways shy
The better human traits to him did apply
In his lifetime he never did harm anyone
And his mum and his dad in him raised a good son

Sad news out of Millstreet where he first saw light of day
That the honourable Ned from life has passed away
Perhaps in his sixties he was not aged in years
In Millstreet and Duhallow he was farewelled in tears

He was a man who did make many a friend
And sad to learn his life's journey has come to an end
As he was one who had in him so much good
And if he could help you he most certainly would

From his homeplace in Carrigacooleen just a few kilometres away
By Cashman's Hill in St Mary's his last remains lay
From his final sufferings he has found release
Ned Casey the good man he now is at peace.
