Neither Knowing Poem by Katherine Rhodes

Neither Knowing

My fingers through your hair
but you don't know
for you are off to a world
that I can't follow you to
and in sleep I hope you find some rest
for your body and your weary soul
And I watch your pulse in your neck
and think about how I should go
but can't
I can't leave you, not now
not ever
no matter the things you've done
or the things I've said
and I sit here now,
tho the screen is blurred
by the tears that are beginning to make their journey
then look at you,
still in a world that I cannot enter,
I pray, in some way that I am already there
in your dreams
for that is the safest place for me.
And tho you may not know,
after this sentence
I will sit next to you,
and run my fingers through your hair.
