Never Live, Never Die Poem by Loraine Lotter

Never Live, Never Die

Don’t look as we fall,
just hold on to me and don’t let go.
Feeling the wind bite your skin,
don’t give in because we’re on our own.

Your eyes catch mine for the last time.

This inevitable fate’s got me dying to escape,
it’s got me dying not to break.
Reach for my hands, reach for the light.
Don’t be afraid, I promise not tonight.
Never live, never die.

We’re snatching at empty air,
people stare, but no one calls for help.
I’m terrified of where we’ll be,
I can’t breathe so I curl into myself.

This inevitable fate’s got me dying to escape,
it’s got me dying not to break.
Reach for my hands, reach for the light.
Don’t be afraid, I promise not tonight.
Never live, never die.

Sirens calling from the street.
Whispering demons at my feet.
Fallen angels carrying me.
Holding onto you I scream.
Close my eyes as it draws near.
Despite the fall my biggest fear
is waking from this cold nightmare
realizing that you’re not there.

Reach for my hands, reach for the light.
Don’t be afraid, I promise not tonight.
Reach for my hands, reach for the light.
Don’t look away, I promise we’ll be fine.
Reach for my hands, reach for the light.
You know you can’t die if you’ve never been alive.
Never live, never die.
