New Phone Number Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

New Phone Number

Got a new number to receive calls
thought it was unique unto me
now when I answer the telephone
I am greeted by those who are friendly

Hi, how are yah…with familiarity
An unknown identity has been transferred
Suddenly, I've become a duplicated clone
This error is disturbingly absurd

Sorry, let me briefly explain...
the person you are speaking with
is not the person that you called
Your expectations are just a myth

Extraneously... I implore understanding
I'm dismayed by the calls I am receiving
Doubting me…there is an awkward pause
It should be clear…I am not deceiving

Your claims are intended for another
I am not trying to avoid paying bills
No, I have never employed your services
Running out of patience…I try to chill

Finally the message is apparent...
this number now assigned to me
Hope this clears miscomprehension
Perhaps now… I can escape ambiguity
