New Salem (Or The Witch And The Famous) Poem by Richard Theze

New Salem (Or The Witch And The Famous)

Witch,
They cry, and
The hysteria begins
And the witch hunters hunt,
Deep in the hallowed halls of fame
And the papers print the ‘facts’
And the media tries the case
And the misandrists judge
In the interest of
The public and the
Accused, innocent
Until proven guilty,
Damned if he sinks,
Damned if he swims,
Pilloried and pressed
Under the weight of
Slung accusations,
Faces the hangmen,
Thoroughly tested,
In the sure and
Certain knowledge
That mud sticks.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This was written following operation Yew Tree in the UK. It is absolutely not in defense of paedophiles, but in defense of the principle: innocent until proven guilty. Sadly, I am unable to format it here, but copied, pasted and centred, it forms a phallic symbol.
