Newborns Awakened Poem by RoseAnn V. Shawiak

Newborns Awakened

Newborns being awakened from their spaces in their mother's
wombs, lights shining in their eyes and faces, trying to ad-
just to this new environment.

Not exactly liking it at first glance, being noisy, too much
going on, listening for their mommy's soothing voice having
heard it now for nine months straight.

Looking to be comforted, wanting to be held closely in the
comfort of the womb where they've been living all this time,
wondering why things have changed so drastically, wanting an
answer and nutrition along with the closeness of a mother.
