Observing Life And Jotting It Down Poem by Warren Brown

Observing Life And Jotting It Down

Why is it that inspiration often comes and goes?
One often sees things dressed in worthy clothes
Often as not though, they're clad in rags and grime
Ideas, I'm talking about, things that mark the time
Things that I have seen that make a big impression
Makes me sit down at the laptop, have a writing session.

The episodes I see, those worthy of recording
I jot them down, some good, some bad but, purporting
To have some merit, it depends on your point of view
My critics are numerous, some like ‘em, some think I'm askew!
But I care not, and perhaps an honest journalist I am not
But I'll have you know that making up rhyme, is hard yakka, Godwot!

I note things that enchant, and some that make me smile
To share these scenes, these moments, please pause a while.
Some are sad and lonely whilst others, food for thought
To make you smile is mostly my aim but I have also sought
To capture these moments in poetry (which I find is rather hard)
But I'm a slogger, I'll battle on, I'll go that extra yard

To put the sunlight on a "doing" so the subject can bask
In new found "celebrity" status, (perhaps it's a shame I didn't ask!)
Mostly these ditties concern the folks I know and they
May raise a grin and some are bound to be upset, but, hey!
There's nothing like a little airplay when you've been caught
When only to become "incognito" was all they ever sought!

Ah, well, historians chronicled the Romans and the Gauls
Others recorded inventions, to wit: the ratchet and the pawl
And Monet, he captured the flowers and the landscape
Samuel Johnson kept a diary and captured life in cityscape
As for me, I just record minor domestic doings as they happen
Ha! Down around Scarborough, it's to my tune they'll be tappin'!
