Night 2 Poem by Gert Strydom

Night 2

(after Alexander Sergeyevich Pus)

For you in my heart and soul I am yearning,
words from my spirit fill my thoughts and surge;
without power one lonely candle is burning;
verses of you my lost love do emerge:

it is as if once more you are my own,
as if real passion we do once more know,
as if you do truly love me alone,
shadows are on the wall. a candle does glow.

Poet's note: I am quoting his poem here:

'Night' by Alexander Sergeyevich Pus

'My voice, to which love lends a tenderness and yearning,
Disturbs night's dreamy calm... Pale at my bedside burning,
A taper wastes away... From out my heart there surge
Stift verses, streams of love, that hum and sing and merge.
And, full of you, rush on, with passion overflowing.
I seem to see your eyes that, in the darkness glowing,
Meet mine... I see your smile... You speak to me alone:
My friend, my dearest friend... I'm your's... your own.']
