Rays permeate the void of night
New stars throb before spilling light
Black holes tug with pernicious might
Who am I to judge what is right?
Inky clouds sway in prideful climbs
Unaware that bolts strike sometimes
With rage beyond most mortals' crimes
Vantage above views mere enzymes
Leafy greens hug the flowing hills
Grateful for all that nimbus spills
Essence of life filling the gills
Dirt blazing with nitrogen fills
Worms churn below with blind passion
Adding toil to soil once ashen
Vast effort proves beyond ration
When survival serves as fashion
Such vim and verve drives the lone bird
Pecking the surface undeterred
Until snaring a lunch preferred
To bowing down to hunger's word
As the grub slides down that plumed throat
Ears fall deaf to that panicked note
Ecology demands this float
Since cycles link lives once remote
Just before flesh dissolves away
Recognition lightens his sway
Once he feels the kindred array
Of parasites consuming prey
Candlelight aids to chase the dark
Even as lust provides our spark
Retinas singed by the sun's mark
Ignore splendor as we embark
