Night Lights Poem by Bill Galvin

Night Lights

Rating: 5.0

Night Lights

I would leave a small light on for you.
This was not your familiar, loving bedroom;
You could no longer go upstairs and use our bed.
A low light electric candle cast just enough glow
So that when you woke in the middle of the night
You'd be comforted, knowing you were not alone,
As I slept in the bed across from you.
You could call me; then after losing your voice,
Still get my attention to help ease your discomfort.
Not that you were afraid of the dark, ever;
You were not. But, this was different.

Now that you're gone from this world,
(Remember you said you'd be my guardian angel?)
I'd like to ask a favor.
My remaining travels will be lonelier, cloudier, darker,
Without you.

Do you think you could leave a light on for me?

Thanks, Babe… see you soon.
