Night Of The Krait Poem by Bijay Kant Dubey

Night Of The Krait

One midnight after the death of my father
While my mother and brother had been sleeping
On the floor of the room
My mother called me
And switched on the light all of a sudden
To inform about the movement of a black banded krait
Crawling into the room,
The black snake with the red tongue took me by surprise
And the hair stood on the body,
I trembling with fear after looking the snake
So venomous, so shiny and glowing,
The small caretaker came and he killed the snake
And even after two baby snakes out the other day,
The night of the krait, I still remember it
As I have not forgotten.

I do not know where did it crawl into the room,
Did it fall through the titled roof of the old house
or naturally it made a way into,
The banded krait, the black snake with the white bands
Over the shiny body glowing dangerously,
It was a beauty to see it appearing on as an unwanted guest,
The dangerous making of creation and nature,
But it was a matter of life and death too
Had it bitten or we could have trampled its body
What would it have happened?
And we escaped it narrowly by chance by the grace of God,
We thanked Him for His Mercy.
We also prayed to Naga Devata, locally called Dubey Baba.
