Nigeria, my father's land,
So religious,
But so corrupt,
Using falsehood to fight
Against corruption.
Nigeria, the land of the nobles,
Politicians come into office,
Pretend to make it corruption-free,
But cabinets, full are
Family and kinsmen.
Nigeria, bound in freedom,
Shattered by corruption,
The rich stealing from the poor
And the poor being aggrieved,
Where then is the bound?
Nigeria, where is thy service?
With love, strength and faith-
Faith of the poor in the strength of gluttons,
Where then does love come in?
Nowhere! Just hatred!
Nigeria, "the giant of Africa",
How dwarfed are you in goodness?
How little are thou in unity, power and peace?
Unity, power and peace; all in the hands of some power-fool,
How high art thou in corruption?
6ft? 7ft? Unquantifiable? Oh yeah!
Nigeria, my homeland,
The land of legends: Adelabu Penkelemesi, Usman Dan Fodio, Fela Kuti, Mutiu Adepoju;
Heroes: Funmilayo Ransome kuti, Chief Anthony Enahoro, Kudirat Abiola;
Freedom fighters: Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Dr. Nnamadi Azikiwe;
"The labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain"
How then did that thingy, "corruption" find its way among us?
Nigeria, the land full of honey,
Let us, collectively and singularly, rise up against all form of corruption-
Bribery, embezzlement, theft, fraud,
Extortion, blackmail, business networking,
Abuse of discretion, favoritism, nepotism and clientelism.
Nigeria, my incredible home,
Take your place among the giants of the planet earth,
Be the envy of the world that you are.
Nigeria, Speak to corruption to leave your vicinity,
And it shall come back no more.
