No Fireflies Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Something is missing
where are their blinking lights
no fireflies in July
where is their twilight flight

My delight has diminished
weren't conditions right...
something is very wrong
it is a very dark night

Indeed there is a reason
for the extermination
For heaven's sake...
What was their violation

Are the toxins in the air
silently destroying the firefly
Sound the alarm and think...
Humans may be next to die

Chemical sprays can cause
a slow death as levels increase
We must take responsibility…
Thoughtless killing must cease!
