Nocturnal Happenings Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Nocturnal Happenings

Rating: 5.0

While the day creature sleeps soundly
An unseen world of movement starts
Small animals scamper quickly to survive
Pausing only briefly with secrets to impart

Slugs slowly slide on darkened undersides
Of broad leaves gathering moisturized treats
Long earthen worms venture from the depth
Of tunnels to stretch freely…avoiding beaks

Fireflies dance among the blades and branches
Of the undergrowth trying to outshine the moon
Skunks proceed with caution… ready to take aim
Trashcan lids are pried open by a raiding raccoon

Bats emit their bleeps and begin their insect search
As a rhythm of activity stirs in the vagueness of twilight
The owl turns his head from side to side and surveys…
Targeted creatures attempt to stay out of pursuing sight
