No Joke Poem by David Harris

No Joke

Sometimes things happen to us
that at the time are no joke.
Yet later looking back
we have good laugh
at what occurred to us.

Like being locked in a hotel room
and a porter comes along,
but does not unlock the door.
Just leaves us there with the only route out
is to jump out a window into a rubbish skip.

A rented accommodation
with all the windows open
and lights left on.
The electric runs on a slot meter that goes
as soon as you put the kettle on
with no indication where the meter is.

A new movement sensor light
ideal for some light
when you get up in the dark,
but only to have a moth fly in
and keep setting it off and on all night.
Leaving you with no sleep.

However when the new day dawns
the panic retreats
and we look back and smile
at the craziness of it all.
Having a good long laugh at our moments of panic.
