No Love Lost Poem by Marc Goddard

No Love Lost

Rating: 4.8

I cannot cry, I cannot feel,
for you have made me numb.
There was a time, my Achiles heel,
was love for you, so dumb.

But times have changed, and with them, you,
I will not let you loose,
to hurt the next fool in your queue
with your covetous noose.

I won't forget, you've made your bed,
no wiping the slate clean.
You've gone too far, and gone too your head,
your heart of icy gleam.

Your soul is black, nothing but cold,
and now I'm left to think,
was it right for me to fold,
and simply let us sink?

You used me and you stole my heart,
and then came back for more.
I gave it without a second thought,
just to end up back on the floor.

Of everything our love demanded,
you paid nothing towards to cost.
But through this ordeal, I've been reminded;
'Overall there's no love lost.'

A deeply moving poem by a very good poet.

Like a lot of poems it's much better after a second reading. The pain comes through and that last line is perfect.
