No More Sleep For The Giant Poem by Oluwafemi Oladunni

No More Sleep For The Giant

Echo it loud,
Make it known to all
Show it to the deaf, say it to the blind,
Gather all in numbers, make haste
Sleep no more in your ruins
Wait no more till you are swallowed up in your graves.

Let the drums roll,
Let the army of vengeance gather,
We shall gather at river bank.
The great river whose name we are called

We will chant war songs from the mountain top down to the valley,
Let the earth hear us, may the great Niger river support,
Let the spirit of our ancestors be our guard,
No more shall we be battered and scathed by those in whose hands we entrust our sovereignty
Let it be known that until justice reigns, we shall not lose grip of our swords.

A fierce battle is drawn
The money mongers and the powerful will feel our wrath.
This is a war, like a stream it shall flow across oceans,
Until we are oppressed and suppressed no more

Forward, we shall march into battle,
Justice is our song, peace our banner
In equity we shall lay, on fairness we rest, until the battle is over.

The judgment day is now, we shall rise with our swords,
We gave you the power, you in turn enslaved us,
We were beaten by poverty, laced with hunger, death shrunk us and the grave swallowed us
Our hope for a better future, you make a fantasy.

You splurge our wealth, you make waste our resources,
Leaving us with nothing, our eyes dream, yet reality is far gone,
We are ready to die for what is ours,
By our swords we shall execute judgement.
