No Ordinary Squirrel Poem by R.Benjamin Abate

No Ordinary Squirrel

I made friends with a squirrel
Because I lost hope in humanity-
I made sense of the tales
That I once heard from my family-

The squirrel stared into my eyes-
I then thought:

We’re all equal within the iris
But we only know I-
Blinded by the colors
Of different pupils-
Afraid to risk our own world
In order to see another’s

The squirrel was startled as
The wind rustled the leaves
& Ran off-

well they don't gossip or blame do they but then again, they don't converse and maybe that's why we like them and they in turn, run away from us.....do you think they know something? ;)
