The defeated heart's hopes have long been hurled,
Knowing how vain the search for love can be;
Yet, it finds its peace in a phantom world
Of shadows mimicking love's ecstasy
Why must loneliness conjure up such fears?
When I feel alone, with no direction,
I need but look into my pool of tears,
And I'm comforted by my reflection
In the night I may wander paths unknown
With the luster of the moon to guide me;
Pity me not, thinking I walk alone -
My shadow walks faithfully beside me
A Spring morning may find me wading rills
In a vale where the meadow rue stands tall;
I cry 'I love you' to the distant hills,
And some phantom lover echoes my call
Or I may write an ardent love letter,
In a bottle I cast it to the sea;
What joy as I'm freed of despair's fetter
When the tide returns that message to me
Curse of loneliness! no such thing need be;
But how do we bear the pain? you may ask,
Look to desperate hearts for the remedy -
Our senses have been well-trained for the task
line one: quadruple h! ! ! you win the gold medal of alliterations! ! ! When I feel alone, with no direction, I need but look into my pool of tears, And I'm comforted by my reflection................i prefer using a mirror, but, yeah, my reflection is also............................................................................comforting! But how do we bear the pain? you may ask, ...............maybe a period, not comma? hee-hee. i like the abab scheme. it seems to not work so well when i accidentally (or on purpose) use that abab. you are soooooooooooooooooooo good! bri :) of course, to MyPoemList.
Thank you, Lora, for sharing such an exquisite piece of poetry which brings the both pain and the pleasure at the same time to a lonely heart. Enjoyed reading it. Thanks again. I cry 'I love you' to the distant hills, And some phantom lover echoes my call What joy as I'm freed of despair's fetter

I would like to translate this poem
Curse of loneliness is difficult to bear. 'Why must loneliness conjure up such fears? When I feel alone, with no direction, I need but look into my pool of tears, And I'm comforted by my reflection' - So poignantly expressed!
Thank you, Khairul. It's always nice hearing from you.
